How is dust control compound different from original PLUS 3™ Joint Compound?
SHEETROCK® brand dust control joint compound provides the same great performance as the original but creates less airborne dust when sanded.

How does it work?
Good, old-fashioned science. The compound’s patented formulation technology binds up fine sanding residue to form heavier particles that fall straight to the floor instead of clouding the air.

How’s its performance?
With the bond of a taping compound and easy sanding of a topping compound, our dust control compound provides low shrinkage, weighs 35% less than conventional joint compounds and usually requires just two coats over metal.

Where does it work best?
The compound can be used for all drywall finishing applications. It’s ideal for any job in any place where cleanliness is critical, like residential and commercial remodeling and repair jobs.

Can I use it for all joint finishing, including taping and topping coats?
Yep. Use it to tape, top and coat metal beads and trims — and it requires only two coats over metal corner beads and fasteners. It also bonds like a taping product for a tough, tight hold in most job conditions. You’re getting an advanced product that combines all-purpose, single-package convenience with taping and topping performance.

What kind of sandpaper should I use?
As you would with regular PLUS 3™ joint compound, use 150-grit sandpaper or 220-grit abrasive mesh cloth or finer. General-purpose sandpaper can also be used; however, higher quality sandpaper will provide the best results. These products feature heavier-grade paper and more uniformly bonded grit, making them less susceptible to sandpaper packing, which can result in uneven sanding. We recommend:
- 3M™ SANDBLASTER™ Bare Surfaces Sandpaper (purple)
- Johnson Abrasives SMOOTH-KUT™ Paper (black)
- Sancap Abrasives GOLDEN TOUCH® Paper
- Mercer Abrasives Premium Green Drywall Paper
